Girbau equips the Vanguard Laundry social enterprise

The Vanguard Laundry in Toowoomba (Queensland, Australia) was inaugurated on Monday 16th January with an inclusive laundry project offering employment opportunities to more than 40 people who have a lived with mental illness. The business is supported by St Vincent’s Private Hospital, which has outsourced the service provided up to now by its in-house laundry, in a long-term contract over nine years.

The Girbau subsidiary in Australia has equipped the whole laundry with batch washing and ironing systems. The machines purchased enable this social project to offer a top-quality service by running easy-to-use, ergonomic and highly efficient equipment that offers increased productivity and profitability for the business.

Vanguard Laundry is the biggest facility run by a social enterprise in Australia and is operated by the non-profit organisation Toowoomba Clubhouse, dedicated to improving the health and life experience of people with intellectual disability. The laundry has received support from the Federal Government of Australia, Westpac, Westpac Foundation, The Paul Ramsay Foundation, AMP, Ian Potter Foundation and the local philanthropist Ian Knox. The Prime Minister of Australia, Mr Malcolm Turnbull, was present at the opening.
