The Catalan Minister for Territory and Sustainability, Lluís Recoder, awarded Girbau the EMAS prize last Thursday in an act that took place in the CosmoCaixa Auditorium inBarcelona.
The award recognises technological innovations that the laundry machinery manufacturer has introduced in the design of its products and that have made it possible to reduce the consumption of water and energy in laundries. It also highlights the reduction in the drying time achieved with new Ecodryer dryers manufactured in Vic, which has been reduced from the usual 45 minutes to 25 minutes.
The managing director of Girbau, Pere Girbau Pous, who accepted the award, ensured that "awards like this encourage us to continue with our commitment to protecting the environment which we have maintained since the beginning of our business over 50 years ago. We have always defended the idea that protecting the environment is profitable for the company and for productive activity. Reducing consumption is also profitable for our clients. Investment in preserving the environment is a commitment with value for the present and for the future. "
The aim of the Club EMAS awards is to recognise companies put forward as candidates that apply this European environmental management system. Girbau obtained this voluntary certification in 2004.
The event, which was hosted by Pere Renom, the presenter of the TV3 programme Quèquicom, was attended by more than 180 people.
