TBS 50 Tunnel Washer
Maximum Productivity in Continuous Washing Processes
Discover how Girbau transformed an outdated laundry at the Hospital Naval de Ferrol into a state-of-the-art industrial facility capable of processing up to 3,000 kg of laundry per day. Thanks to advanced automation, ergonomic improvements, and sustainable processes, this turnkey project demonstrates how the combination of expert consultancy and cutting-edge technology can turn a hospital laundry into a strategic asset for operational efficiency and service quality.
The objective of the project was to completely renovate the laundry facility of the Naval Hospital of Ferrol to increase productivity, modernize washing processes, and optimize water and energy consumption, while significantly improving ergonomics and working conditions for staff.
The hospital was operating an outdated, domestic-style laundry with more than 30 years of service, limited automation, manual linen handling, and no sanitary barrier. The challenge went beyond the installation of new equipment, as it required the full adaptation of a new space located in a different building, under a very tight timeline and with a high level of complexity in terms of coordination, technical consulting, and infrastructure development.
Girbau delivered a turnkey project, assuming full responsibility for the entire process. This included the coordination and supervision of civil works, space adaptation, installation of utilities such as water, electricity, gas, steam, compressed air and climate control, the installation of state-of-the-art equipment, and both theoretical and practical staff training.
As a result, the laundry was transformed from a conventional commercial facility into a highly automated industrial laundry, optimizing washing processes, reducing processing times, and maintaining the highest standards of cleaning quality. In addition, Girbau provides weekly maintenance services for two years to ensure optimal long-term performance.
A turnkey project transforming hospital efficiency
The renovation of the laundry facilities at the Ferrol Naval Hospital has led to a radical change in its daily operations. Through a turnkey project, a comprehensive approach was implemented, covering everything from space adaptation to the integration of advanced technological solutions.
The project not only involved the installation of state-of-the-art machinery, but also the coordination of all processes, suppliers, and execution phases. This made it possible to deliver a fully operational solution, ready to perform from day one.
The transformation marked the transition from a traditional laundry, with manual processes and non-barrier equipment, to a highly automated industrial laundry. This shift has enabled optimized processing times, improved service quality, and reduced physical workload for staff.
Additionally, the new facility was located in a completely different space, requiring the creation from scratch of all necessary infrastructures, including water, electricity, gas, steam, compressed air, and climate control systems.
The new system integrates a continuous batch washer, automated transport systems, high-performance dryers, and efficient ironing and folding solutions. Thanks to this level of automation, the entire workflow has been optimized, from the intake of soiled linen to its delivery ready for use.
One of the most significant improvements is the elimination of manual handling of soiled linen, which is now processed through closed and automated systems, enhancing both hygiene and operational efficiency.
The new laundry not only improves operational results but also enhances working conditions. The implementation of ergonomic systems reduces physical strain and simplifies tasks that were previously carried out manually, such as folding or machine loading.
This results in a safer, more efficient, and more comfortable working environment for staff.
Do you want to implement an industrial laundry as efficient and automated as the one at the Naval Hospital in Ferrol?
Maximum Productivity in Continuous Washing Processes
High-Performance Water Extraction and Fabric Care
High-Performance Drying With Maximum Energy Efficiency
Following the commissioning of the new industrial laundry, the Naval Hospital of Ferrol has achieved a significant improvement in operational performance. The facility now processes approximately 3,000 kg of laundry per day, supported by automated workflows and optimized process continuity. Mechanization has reduced washing, drying, and finishing times, increasing overall productivity while maintaining high-quality results.
The installation of state-of-the-art industrial equipment has delivered greater operational stability and consistency. Girbau machines are designed for continuous, demanding environments such as hospitals, ensuring reliable performance and reduced downtime. This reliability is further reinforced by weekly maintenance services provided over a two-year period, guaranteeing long-term system performance.
The new laundry model represents a substantial step forward in sustainability and energy efficiency. Thanks to the advanced technologies implemented, the hospital has achieved an approximate 40% reduction in water consumption during the washing process, a 30% energy saving through the Drain Intercooler system, and a reduction in steam and gas consumption of 10% during drying and 35% during ironing. These improvements significantly reduce the environmental impact while optimizing operating costs without compromising cleaning quality.
