Building a laundry operation for the luxury hospitality sector
Today, Brompton processes up to 100,000 pieces every week for a customer base that includes luxury hotels, high-end boutiques, restaurants and major venues.
But the business began with little more than a clear vision, strong hospitality experience and an ambition to build an industrial laundry operation capable of growing alongside its customers.
That is where its partnership with Girbau began.
The Challenge
When owners Fiona and Charles approached Girbau, they had extensive experience within hospitality but limited experience of operating an industrial laundry.
Their ambition was clear: to create a high-quality, efficient laundry operation capable of supporting their existing customers while providing the capacity to grow.
Girbau worked closely with the team from the outset, helping translate that vision into a practical operation and providing advice and support throughout the process.
A Partnership Built for Growth
One of the first priorities was the design of Brompton’s laundry operation. Girbau worked with the team to remodel the original 2015 floorplan, improving workflow and creating an operation that could evolve as the business expanded.
Rather than designing solely around Brompton’s immediate requirements, the aim was to create a foundation for sustainable long-term growth.
“We had a clear vision for our dream layout, and our challenge was to achieve this whilst we grew.”
Over the years, the partnership has continued as Brompton’s requirements have evolved. Equipment has been upgraded and additional automation introduced, with each investment carefully selected and configured to complement the company’s wider business plan.
Most recently, the installation and upgrade of Girbau’s TBS Multi tunnel washing system has enabled Brompton to significantly increase throughput while improving operational efficiency.
The result has been a 30% increase in capacity, alongside utility reductions of up to 15%.
The Solution
Brompton’s development demonstrates the importance of looking beyond individual pieces of equipment and considering the laundry operation as a whole.
Girbau’s approach has combined equipment, layout planning, automation and ongoing technical expertise to create a solution capable of developing alongside the business.
This is particularly important within luxury hospitality, where consistency, reliability and quality of finish are critical. As Brompton has grown, its laundry operation has been able to maintain those standards while processing significantly greater volumes.
“Thanks to Girbau, the quality of finish is superb, and our customers consistently give us five-star feedback.”
The Results
The long-standing partnership between Brompton Laundry and Girbau has helped transform an ambitious concept into a high-capacity commercial laundry serving some of the UK’s most demanding hospitality customers.
Today, Brompton is achieving:
+70% pieces processed per operating hour
+30% increase in capacity
Up to 15% reduction in utilities
Reduced chemical consumption
Improved staff morale
With the right technology, careful planning and a partnership that has developed alongside the business, Brompton Laundry has been able to increase capacity and efficiency without compromising the premium quality on which its reputation has been built.
